When we begin to study the Quran we may be confused. It is because its verses are not arranged logically and according to the subject matter. The Chapters do not necessarily contain everything as is in the title. There is repetition of ideas. Some verses are not easy to understand. Very simple as well as complicated ideas are dealt with at the same time. I personally find these things as the real challenge for the human brain. After a little effort this seal of the Quran will open for us and we will begin to enjoy its real beauty. The confusion that may creep in our minds is sought to be removed by the Quran itself.
Let us look at some Quranic verse related to what we have said so far:
C 3 , V 7 ( Easy and difficult verses) : He it is who has sent down to you the book(Quran). It has verses that are basic and fundamental. Their meaning is clear. They are the foundation of the book. Others are not entirely clear. But those whose hearts are obstinate in opposing what is reasonable follow the part that is not entirely clear. They are looking for its interpretation and want to make differences between you from it. But no one knows its true meaning except Allah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say we, believe in it, the whole of it is from our Lord, and none will grasp the Message except men of understanding.
C 11 , V 1 : ( verses explained further) :This is a book with verses fundamental ( of established meaning) further explained in detail from who is wise and well acquainted .
So let us all approach the study of Quran as Allah instructs us. Let us study the verses that are basic and fundamental first. Their meaning is clear. They form the fundamentals of our faith. When we have understood them, then we implement them in our daily lives. Over a period of time Allah will increase our understanding level. Then step-by-step we will begin to understand the more difficult verses also.
In our routine lives how much time do we spend in the serious study of other books. These may be regarding our Professions or normal academics. In these cases we normally have a deadline. After the deadline our knowledge of these books is tested. This may be by written exams or by practical testing of skills we are supposed to acquire from these books. In the same way we are supposed to study the “ Mother of all Books”, the Quran.
C 24 V 2 (Allah’s test) : Do men think that they will be left alone on just saying that we believe , and that they will not be tested? We did test those before them and Allah will certainly know those who are true from those who are false. Do those who practice evil think they will overtake us? Evil indeed their judgment.
We have to mould our habits , behavioral skills and everything we do as is written in the Quran. Then we will be tested. We are accountable for every act we do. Our life in this world is nothing more than a preparation for the examination on the day of Qayamat. Most of us keep on postponing this preparation. However the fact remains that:
C3, A 185 (Death): Every soul shall have a taste of death.
Then we will have no more time.
